Iceland 2

I slept for a few hours here before waking up around 6pm my time. I walked down to the ocean and then up towards the town. It's not so bad here. I didn't get back 9ish and it's now 9:30 and still pretty light out. Though it's only 2 degrees celsius (about 36 farenheit) it doesn't feel that cold. No wind, no rain, no snow, and it isn't super humid. I walked probably about 4 miles in all and it was a rather pleasant experience. I got some photos of me by the water and on a bench etc. Check them out http://zippee.info/photos
One really strange thing here that I couldn't help but notice is that all the "grass" looks like it was rolls of sod laid out months ago and dead. All along the waterfront path the "grass" has huge lines in it where you can see them laid next to each other... and yet, it's brown cause it's been there awhile. Also I call it "grass" cause it actually has more moss in it than grass. Still it isn't that bad.
I picked up some food in town.. this thing called a drykkur which was like a watery yogurt and kinda sour tasting. I also got some choclate that was tasty and a sandwich but decided to save the sandwich for tomorrow. Instead I got KFC on the way back..... it was pretty normal other than there were Dorito like chips in it and that was definitely not in the photo. Otherwise it tasted better than our KFC.
So far everyone I've dealt with speaks English. Ya a lot of them have accents, or will be talking in their language to someone else before I approach but it's not like any of them have not understood me. I'm excited to head out to London tomorrow around 2pm but am a little nervous about trying to get to the airport. There isn't a regular bus or anything I've found... I might have to try and get a taxi ride again.
Anyway, check out the photos and thanks for staying updated!

Thanks for keeping us informed. Iceland looks very sparse!

Hi

Spencer,
I'm enjoying your trip so far, thank you for sharing. I forgot to share a piece of advice with you that I received from a former VSAA student, Annie Wylie. She did a lot of traveling alone in Europe while she was an exchange student in college. Annie said that whenever she was out and about a new town and met new people, she would lead them to believe she was with a group of people who were meeting her at the hostel. That way she had an easy excuss to part company, leave the cafe, or take another train, if she started to feel uncomfortable in their company. I not worried that you will find yourself in such situations, but if you do you might find this trick helpful.

OK....no more MOM stuff from Susan. Have a wonderful time in London. I can't wait to hear your impressions of the grand old town.
