IcelandI just arrived in Iceland about an hour and a half ago. It took me a bit to figure out how to get from the airport to the hostel but I had a taxi driver end up calling another taxi driver who picked me up and brought me here. I'll have to figure out this money exchange thing, I asked how much it was and all I had was Euros and US Dollars and he had the price in Iceland Krona... so I gave him 20 Euros and he gave me 1000 krona... I think it ended up working out to about 2340 krona... or $18 US. I don't really know. I met a nice mother and daughter on the airplane. I ended up having my seat moved because I had an empty seat next to me and there was a couple who wanted to sit together but were in separate sections... so I of course was asked if I'd volunteer to move... so I did! I got the one row in the entire plane whose personal movie players didn't work. They were frozen the whole time so I couldn't watch anything or... turn it off when I wanted to sleep. Oh well. I did meet this lovely mother and daughter who seem to have done a fair bit of travel. The mother just got back from Thailand (she got to ride elephants!!) and the daughter and her have been to Australia, Fiji, New Zealand among other places. For this trip they were going right on to London and were going to spend 3 weeks in London, Copenhagen and Venice. Sounds like fun to me, but we shall see what God's plans for me are. Anyway, they shared easter chocolate with me and we talked about our trips before sleeping. I think I slept for about 5 hours... I don't really know. So now I am sitting at the FIT Hostel in Iceland waiting for the reception to get here so I can check in. I had to call them on the phone in the front of the building since they aren't currently at the hostel. The place seems pretty empty to me, I might have heard a guy snoring in one of the rooms but otherwise it seems all the rooms are open or have a key in the door. The place seems pretty quaint. There is a nice big chair in the corner but sadly the wireless wouldn't connect so instead I'm stuck stealing the ethernet cable from their desktop and sitting at a table. (See photos) I think that is about all for now. I fly out tomorrow at 2pm so I think today I'll spend some time sleeping and then possibly go try and visit the Blue Lagoon which is their famous hot springs in Iceland. (I happened to see some bikes in the Hostel too and I don't know if I can rent/borrow one but that would be pretty cool!) [inline:hostel4_0.jpg] |
